Weekly Digest October 11-17
Today’s news is Frank Carter And The Rattlesnakes turned out fun, and new Twelve Foot Ninja is expectedly weird. October, a spooky season is in full swing — an animated film and an EP from Knocked Loose, a horror music film from ICE NINE KILLS and classic evil from HATE, as well as darkwave from Iceland Kælan Mikla are great confirmations of that. And more, noise rock veterans Cherubs and post punk debutante Witch Fever, crossover metal SNAFU and acoustic The Melvins... this all is in our Weekly Digest.
Cherubs — SLO BLO 4 FRNZ & SXY
Austin, TX’s cult noise rock trio CHERUBS return with their new EP "SLO BLO 4 FRNZ & SXY", a follow-up to their critically acclaimed "Immaculada High" (2019). The new EP capitalizes on the musical frenzy and shining moments of the latest full length, resulting in another dose of the legendary band's take on punk-infused noise rock.

Frank Carter And The Rattlesnakes — Sticky
Frank Carter and The Rattlesnakes’ new LP called "Sticky", with a brightly colored cartoon cover, contains lots of features: queer pop artist Lynks on party songs "Bang Bang" and "Go Get A Tattoo" (I highly recommend to check out what Lynks does, it's worth that), Joe Talbot from IDLES on the track "My Town", who narrates about nothing but the inability of men to express their feelings (like all 3 full-length IDLES’ albums, duh), gothic electro-pop princess Cassyette and Primal Scream vocalist Bobby Gillespie are also there. It turned out pretty good.

Hate — Rugia
What I love about Hate is that you always know what you're going to get — heavy muscular blackened death metal.

ICE NINE KILLS — The Silver Scream 2: Welcome to Horrorwood
Horror movies, metal, dark humor, and great mall emo choruses in the spirit of My Chemical Romance — this weird salad by ICE NINE KILLS somehow works. "The Silver Scream 2: Welcome to Horrorwood" is like a good slasher on VHS cassettes, full of clichés and self-irony, but also has some interesting moves that make you pay attention. Halloween is fun, another confirmation of this is the list of guests on the album: Brandon Saller (ATREYU), Ryan Kirby (FIT FOR A KING), Jackoby Shaddix (Papa Roach) and Corpsegrinder (Cannibal Corpse). Also, I advise you to watch their music videos, ICE NINE KILLS did a really good job.

Kælan Mikla — Undir Köldum Norðurljósum
If ICE NINE KILLS made October fun, Kælan Mikla opened the "spooky season" more seriously. Synth-punk / dark-pop from Iceland makes me imagine the mystical landscapes of the Nordic island country, against the background of which you can see a goth, dancing happily in their sadness... And then I watched their music video, and it was exactly that.

Knocked Loose — A Tear in the Fabric of Life
Surprising EP drop from respected metal / hardcore artists from Kentucky. There are 21 minutes of tension, combined with a spooky black and white animated film. Visual — on point, music combines metalcore, hardcore and even a little bit of nu metal, but in very reasonable and correct proportions, the quality level is very high, no surprise they headline festivals and have sold-out concerts wherever they are now allowed.

The Melvins — Five Legged Dog
The first ever acoustic record from The Melvins clocking in at 2 & 1/2 hours, spanning the band's career, plus covers of songs by bands such as The Rolling Stones, Alice Cooper, Redd Kross and more!

SNAFU — Exile//Banishment
Crossover thrash / hardcore punk band from Detroit. SNAFU has been around since 2006, "Exile // Banishment" is their third full-length album and debut on Phil Anselmo's Housecore Records label. Nothing out of the ordinary, just some good metal. I liked the transitions from slow to fast parts of the track and the bold bass sound, but it didn’t stick to it after I stopped listening to it.

- Pop
- Jazz
- Rock with metal of corse
- Djent
- Synths as if from arcade games of the 80s

Witch Fever — Reincarnate
The debut EP of the Manchester all-female band Witch Fever, which draws inspiration from Black Sabbath, "Bleach"-era Nirvana, and the British post-punk band from 2010 — Savages. Witch Fever is very focused, angry, and they accurately convey what they want to say. This is one of those bands that can explode very hard soon, so check it out now to then wave in front of friends that you knew about Witch Fever since their very first EP.
