Weekly Digest 22.03-04.04
This Weekly Digest takes us to the far depths of underground. Perhaps, the most famous band in the selection this week is productive heavy metal Haunt, in addition to them we got metallic d-beat band and another crust one: Blue Ox from the US and Downwinder from Greece; speed metal about Greek mythology from the Canadians Aphrodite, black death from Wode and Plaguewielder, noise rock It It Anita and two very strange releases: Devils Teeth’s garage spaghetti western and free jazz grind by Dead Neanderthals!
Aphrodite - Orgasmic Glory
Punky female-fronted speed metal band from Canada that sings about Greek mythology... Should I say more? Tanza Speed on vocals, the vocalist of such bands as Demona and Outline, she also has her own retro-wave project Konstanza, and Jo Steel, known to fans of speed and heavy metal because of the Cannibal and Ice War projects, who is primarily responsible for the instrumental part.

Blue Ox – Holy Vore
Blue Ox is a 5-piece metal/hardcore/punk band formed in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 2005. "Holy Vore" is a union of hardcore, d-beat punk, catchy mid-paced chugging, mosh bursts, and fervent howling vocals embodied by lyrical themes of despair and self-sabotage.

Dead Neanderthals - Rat Licker
We've already introduced you to Dead Neanderthals, who play "heavy free jazz", when they released the 27-minutes death / doom monolith "Blood Rite". This time these crazy people released 12 short and mind-blowing "free jazz grind" tracks.

Downwinder – s/t
Metallized di-beat with old-school death metal vocals from the dirty squats of sunny Greece. A straightforward and immensely powerful release.
Haunt - Beautiful Distraction
Another album from the tireless Trevor William Church and Haunt who released 3 full-lengths only during 2020! If you've heard Haunt already, "Beautiful Distraction" won't surprise you, the guys have found their way and stick to it, if this is the first Haunt LP for you – enjoy, most likely it's not the last time you´ll hear about this band in 2021.

It It Anita – Sauvé
Belgian band It It Anita plays a pretty accessible noise rock that makes you want to dance. It is fun to listen to such bands both in the cramped basements (the main thing is not to forget the earplugs) and at the large summer festivals. Oh, COVID, please, go away.

Plaguewielder – Covenant Death
The band caught my attention with a logo of two braids and a cover depicting a bat, mowing people with the same braid. Yeah, seems relevant. Musically, Plaguewielder delivers a very strong material which cannot be described as one or two genres – here you have death metal, epic heavy metal solos, gothic rock, black metal and post-something. Obviously, this duo from Ohio loves music very much, listens to it a lot and is able not only to be inspired by completely different bands, but also to skillfully compose these influences, creating a unique sound. An interesting find.
Wode – Burn In Many Mirrors
20 Buck Spin is a label whose albums are often included in our weekly selection. It pleases us with an interesting release once again. This time it is the third full-length album of the British black death metal band Wode. The British successfully combine the epic and pathos of black metal with a keen thirst for violence of death metal, finally seasoning it with love to classic 80’s metal.
