Getting to know the Pincet label: 5 significant releases

Pincet is the label that grew out of the promo group with the same name. Since 2007, it’s specialized in electronic music. Jaroslav Kačmarśkyj, the well-known Ternopil artist, told us about the label's activities

Jaroslav Kačmarśkyj
Founder of Pincet

Jaroslav (also known under the names zavgosp, Motoblok, and DJ Zavgoth) is also the founder of Hamselyt, the international festival of experimental music and media art launched in Ternopil in 2012. This festival brings together fans of electronic music and contemporary art from all over Ukraine and from abroad. Jaroslav founded Koza Music Battle, the competition for young bands

What is Pincet

Initially, it was the promo group named Pincet. I organized electronic music parties, and at some point, I wanted to start a netlabel (the word popular at that time). It has to be the label that distributes music for free over the Internet. Then, it was not relevant to use the word "net" since the phenomenon of netlabels became obsolete. Eventually, paid releases and physical media appeared.

Discography

The first release of the label is "ternopil.intro", the collection that was out in May 2008. I wanted to collect tracks created exclusively by Ternopil musicians. Also, there shouldn’t have been popular dance genres such as house or drum & bass. The last release was out a month ago. It’s a tape record by Bedroom Talks, La solitude (more details about the release can be found here).

I find the following artists to be among the most outstanding on the label:

  • Clasps — is the label resident and my close friend
  • Komitet — is a productive Kyiv producer with his own style, a participant of Людська Подоба (Liudska Podoba)
  • Kurs Valut — is the Dnipro band that needs no introduction

Format

Alike to the promo group, the label specializes in various kinds of electronic music. There was techno, dubstep, experimental electronics, and even one pop release. When the label became active three years ago, the format became less diverse. Now, we don’t deal with any music junk. In the end, everything is defined by my tastes and friends.

At some point, I wanted to work with physical media. It's a bit of trouble, however, it makes sense. Putting booklets in boxes, gluing stickers on cassettes, packing and sending packages turned out to be enjoyable activities.

Plans

This year we plan to release an album by Potreba (Odesa), an EP by Batacat (the Catalan-Podolsk band), the anthology album by the veteran of the Ternopil hardcore, Капуста (Kapusta), and maybe something else.

More about releases:

Kurs Valut — Veselo (2018)

The most successful debut album was Veselo by Kurs Valut. It was frequently mentioned in media, and listened to. This was our first experience with tape records, and the result exceeded our all expectations since it was sold out.

Molfar — Fogkolr (2009)

One of the most interesting in terms of sound is Fogkolr by Molfar. Unfortunately, the artist stopped playing music, and this album is the only full-fledged achievement. Great dub/IDM/ambient.

Clasps — PERRLA (2019)

The release from my bro and the label resident — Clasps. There is a mix of sludge, footwork, and funeral Eurodance. Another release on the tape record. Those who purchased it, have access to the exclusive ringtone.

Roman Slavka — Passage (2009)

Dub and ambient techno by Roman Slavka, the Dnipro musician. The album’s deep sound is still relevant.

VA — 1986 (2012)

The collection of Ukrainian experimental ambient is dedicated to the 26th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster. The release is directly related to the accident: Andriy Merenko, the compilation's ideologue, was born in Prypyat and evacuated after the explosion. Both beginners and well-known musicians (ZSUF, Stanislav Tolkachev) from all over Ukraine are included in the collection.
